Simple explanations of the most common faults and codes on Egyptian roads.
The check engine light is your car's computer telling you it detected a problem. Sometimes it's minor like a loose fuel cap, sometimes it needs quick attention.
P0420 means the computer sees the Bank 1 catalytic converter isn't cleaning exhaust efficiently, judged by comparing the upstream and downstream oxygen sensors.
P0300 means misfires across several cylinders without one specific cylinder. Codes P0301–P0304 name the exact cylinder.
P0171 means the oxygen sensor sees too much oxygen — the mixture has too much air — and the computer has reached its fuel-trim correction limit.
The EVAP system traps fuel vapour and burns it in the engine. P0442 means the computer found a small leak in that system.
The OBD-II port is a 16-pin trapezoid connector. In most cars it's under the dashboard on the driver's side, within about a metre of the steering wheel — that's part of the standard.
