P0442: Small EVAP system leak
Severity: Low — not harmful to the engine
The EVAP system traps fuel vapour and burns it in the engine. P0442 means the computer found a small leak in that system.
Common causes
- Loose fuel cap or worn seal — the most common cause.
- Cracked EVAP hose.
- Faulty purge or vent valve.
What to do
Tighten or replace the fuel cap, clear the code and drive a few trips. If it returns, inspect the hoses and valves.
